Tabla is one of the most popular Indian rhythm instruments. The instrument originates from North India and consists of a set of two drums the 'dayan' and the 'bayan', usually played together to create unique and intricate rhythm patterns. The Dayan on its own is also sometimes referred to as a tabla.

 

Basic, intermediate and advanced level lessons will be provided in and around Marietta, GA.

Lesson format (cuztomizable)

 

The standard 45 min tabla lessons for beginner and intermediate level provided in and around Atlanta area.

As student progresses the lessons last 60 min.

 

LESSON FORMAT

 

0-20 min - Revision of previous lessons and homework

              - Recitation of bols and compositions (padhant)

20-45 min - New compositions and notes

               - Writing the bols and division of matras 

               - Hand positioning and tips to improve sound quality

45-60 min - Practice techniques and homework assignment

About Somu S Ray

 

Somu started learning tabla at the age of 5 in Pune, India under the guidance of his grandfather. His guru is renowned guru Pt. Suresh Samant from Pune. He was awarded the cultural talent search scholarship by the Government of India and has played in diverse events across India and US and has won several awards at tabla solo competetions including the Firodiya Karandak, Kalyani karandak, Kanthe Maharaj all India competetion to name a few.
