Somu started learning tabla at the age of 5 in Pune, India under the guidance of his grandfather. He was awarded the cultural talent search scholarghip by the Government of India and has played in diverse events across India and US and has won several awards at tabla solo competetions including the Firodiya Karandak, Kalyani karandak, Kanthe Maharaj all India competetion to name a few.

He is also an accomplished singer and was a finalist in Atlanta Indian Idol 2015. 

 

Lesson format (cuztomizable)

 

The standard 45 min tabla lessons for beginner and intermediate level provided in and around Atlanta area.

As student progresses the lessons last 60 min.

 

LESSON FORMAT

 

0-20 min - Revision of previous lessons and homework

              - Recitation of bols and compositions (padhant)

20-45 min - New compositions and notes

               - Writing the bols and division of matras 

               - Hand positioning and tips to improve sound quality

45-60 min - Practice techniques and homework assignment
